Hi all

I've just seen my consultant, & my blood tests shows that my arthritis activity is very high. I've been on methotrexate injection, aziathioprine, prednisolone for 2yrs and it was working very well - until recently.
I've had weight loss which has also become a concern.

My doctor is now suggesting new treatment of either Humira or Enbrel - i have to have xrays & more blood tests before going for this treatment.

I know that alot of NRAS members are either currently on this medication or have been on them. I've looked on a couple of websites to get more information, but I think you as fellow arthritis sufferers can tell me abit more.

Can you please help me by sharing some of your experiences?
Thank you.

Alisa

Hi Alisa

I was given the choice of enbrel. humira or rituximab. I went for humira as I've heard of a couple of people ding really well on it. Have only just started though so not much to report yet. Hope you get some more info.

Welcome Ailsa

Sorry I have no experience of either of these drugs. Like Julie I am sure there will
be more advice to follow. Good luck though and keep posting.

Hi

I have been on enbrel for 7 years. I was in a bad way with pain from my shoulders down to my feet and everywhere in between. I was on a high dosage of steroids and had tried 3 differerent medications without success.

Enbrel literally gave me my life back, over 2 1/2 years I was able to come off steroids completely. I am still on Methotrexate and other drugs for brittle bones but RA is under control.

I still have bad days but on a day to day basis I am not in pain, as long as I do not do anything daft.

Best wishes
Lisa

if you follow the link to the old forum, there is a thread on the drugs section by mary2000 about this very decision.

humira and enbrel are anti-tnfs. they have similar risk profiles, enbrel was the first drug like it available and I actually was on the trials. humira and others came after. Enbrel is made with mouse protien and humira with a human analogue. There are others too- infliximab, cimzia and a couple of new ones.

Rituximab is a B cell therapy, you get 2 drips full 2 wks apart. then you dont have to have it for 6mths or longer. Some people have gone 3 yrs between doses. The reason I mention it is it is an alternative to the anti- tnf and worth asking about.

Are you sero positive or negative?

The enbrel worked well for me for almost 3 yrs until I got serious probs, I am not good on any of the drugs really and seem to be very sensitive indeed to the Biologics.

What else would you like to know- I do know lots do very very well on the Humira and the other drugs.
